The Sentence
The Sentence:
A sentence is a group of words, which makes a complete sense.

Examples:
Sita is a beautiful girl.
He is sleeping in the bed room.
The parrot builds its nest on the guava tree.
The boy have been following her for two years.
I have gone to market.
I will do that work tomorrow.


Kinds of sentence
There are mainly four kinds of sentences:

1. Declarative or assertive sentences
2. Interrogative sentences
3. Imperative sentences
4. Exclamatory sentences

Assertive sentence
Assertive sentences
A sentence which makes a statement or assertion is called an assertive sentence. Assertive sentence is also called as declarative sentence, statement.
The birds fly.
The children are playing.
We are working.


Kinds of assertive sentence:
There are two kinds of assertive sentences. They are
1. Affirmative statement and
2. Negative statement.
Affirmative statement: The sentence that starts with ‘yes’ are called affirmative statements.
Examples:
Yes, he is short listed in written test.
Yes, they are writing the exams.
Yes, I am suffering form fever.
Negative statement: The sentence that starts with ‘no’ are called affirmative statements.
Examples:
No, they are not going to movie.
No, we are not preparing programs.
No, Samson doesn’t know good programming.


Imperative sentence
Imperative sentence
A sentence that expresses a command, a request or an entreaty is called an imperative sentence.
Be quiet.
Sit down.
Keep quiet.
In imperative sentences the subject is usually left out.
Be quiet. (Here the subject you is not mentioned, but it is understood.)

Exclamatory sentence
Exclamatory sentence
A sentence that expresses a sudden feeling or emotion is called an exclamatory sentence.
How beautifully she sings!
How nice it is!
What a pleasant surprise!


Interrogative sentence
Interrogative sentence
A sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence.
Where do you live?
How are you?
What is it?
Where are you going?


Kinds of questions:
There are two kinds of questions. They are:
1. Wh questions and
2. Helping verb questions
Wh questions: The questions that starts with the word ‘wh’ are called wh questions.
Examples:
What is your name?
Where are you going?
Why are they screaming?
How old are you?
Who are you?
Helping verb questions: The questions that starts with the helping verb are called the helping verb questions.
Examples:
Do u have your break fast?
Did the play well yesterday?
Have you done your home work?
Does Samson start doing programming?
